Jahmal Jones pleaded guilty on Tuesday before Superior Court Judge Rochelle Gizinski, Ocean County First Assistant Prosecutor Michael T. Nolan, Jr. said.

Detectives from Barnegat and Lakewood townships police departments assisted in the investigation, searches and arrests, Nolan said.

Jones faces up to seven years in state prison on the charges with parole eligibility after five years, Nolan said. His sentencing date had not been set, he said.

The charges resulted from an investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force in the summer of 2018.

On Aug. 28, 2018, detectives searched Jones’ residence and vehicle in Brick Township, seizing a significant amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia indicative of drug sales and $3,800, according to Nolan. Detectives also recovered a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber handgun that Jones was not licensed to possess, he said.

Jones also was arrested twice in January 2019 by the Barnegat Township Police Department Crime Reduction Unit and the Lakewood Township Police Department Street Crimes Unit, authorities said.

Prosecutors said they plan to recommend three years in state prison, to run concurrently, on those separate, drug-related charges.

Nolan thanked  Senior Assistant Prosecutor Jamie Schron and Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Burke as well as the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Strike Force, and officers from the Brick, Barnegat and Lakewood police departments for their help.
